One of the teachers, from East New Britain, was stabbed on the head and the other teacher, from Morobean, was stabbed in the abdomen. Both of them were male and died around 3:00 from their wounds. A female auxiliary staff member was stabbed on her breast. She was in critical condition at Tusa Private Hospital when this news report was published. The instigator is from Manus and is a TAFE student. He was apprehended by the police. This act of school violence began around 1 p.m.

An argument this morning led to a stabbing this afternoon in Maryland. A group of male and female students confronted David Gamero and Juan Quito Jr., one 17 and one 16, as they left their summer school classes. The group missed the student they were looking for and decided to attack his friends when they saw them. Around 1:10 a fight ensued at the school's parking lot with Alfredo Sanchez, 28, pulling out a knife. David was "eviscerated" with wounds in the head, lower back and abdomen. Juan was stabbed multiple times in the back. They attempted to run back to the school, but collapsed on the ground. Police and paramedics were called to the scene and the injured students were flown to the hospital for treatment. Four hours later and seven miles away at a Target store, four more teens were stabbed in another fight. On Saturday, police arrested five people in connection with the school stabbing. Those arrested are: Jose Cornejo, 25, Luis Guzman ,19, Kevin Macklin Mendoza, 18, Harris Hauffen, 17 and Rolando Velasquez, 16. All of them were charged as adults with attempted murder, first and second degree assault and conspiracy. Henry Caballero, 20 was charged with four counts of attempted murder and first degree assault in the store stabbing. The injured and the instigators are members of rival Salvadorian gangs. However, there is no connection between the two stabbings. Since there is no connection between the two stabbings, I am not counting the store stabbing injured in my stats. On Thursday, August 18, 2005, a grand jury indicted Kevin, Rolando, Harris and Alfredo with one count each of attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first-degree assault and conspiracy to commit firs-degree assault. Jorge Arbaiza, 15, was indicted on four counts of attempted first-degree murder at the Target store. The remaining suspects will have their preliminary hearings in September. Kevin was sentenced by Judge John W. Debilius III on May 12, 2006 to 18 months in prison. Luis was sentenced May 15, 2006 by Judge Katherine D. Savage to 88 days served in jail. Harris was sentenced to 4 1/2 years by Circuit Court Judge Nelson W. Rupp Jr. on Wednesday, May 24, 2006. Charges against Alfredo because he was indicted on federal racketeering charges.

As their bus started to leave Mandarin Middle School for home, two 15-year-old boys attacked one of their classmates in the back of the bus. The boy being attacked tried to avoid the fight by fleeing the emergency rear exit, but the instigators followed and continued to pummel him. The fight was eventually broken up by school security officers and a police officer. One of the instigators caused more problems for himself by slightly injuring the officer that was trying to restrain him. Both of the instigators were charged with battery and one was also charged with assault on a law enforcement officer. The boy being attacked sustained bruises to his head, mouth and around his right eye.

Last night 14-year-old Roshounda Cooper wrote herself a note on the front page of her black spiral notebook. The note said, "Remember to bring knife." You see, Roshounda and her boyfriend, 15-year-old Jamar Hinds, were breaking up. As they talked on the phone Wednesday night, she said to him that she would kill him at school with a knife. This morning, Roshounda put the notebook inside a three-ring binder, a knife into the waistband of her pants and went to school. As she got off the bus at the school, and before security could check her for weapons, the estranged girlfriend pulled out the 8-inch knife and began to charge Jamar. A school employee saw her wielding the knife, shouted for help and tried to block her path. Cpl. Edd Gordon, who was nearby, grabbed her right arm, where the knife was, but she quickly switched it to her left hand. Cpl. Gordon told her to drop the knife and Roshounda lunged at him. He was able to push her away and then drew his service pistol, a .45-caliber Glock semiautomatic. He aimed it at her as she advanced on him. "Don't point that gun at me," she cried. Cpl. Gordon pushed her away again. Roshounda was about 4 feet away from Cpl. Gordon and poised for a strike when Deputy Mary McFarland fired her Taser on the young girl. Deputy McFarland was also patrolling the school and arrived just in time. Roshounda dropped the knife and fell onto her stomach. Deputy McFarland hit her on her breast and side with the prongs of the Taser. Roshounda began to kick as other deputies tried to subdue her... so, Deputy McFarland zapped her again. Roshounda was taken into custody on the following charges: aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer and possession of a weapon on school grounds. During the whole ordeal, Jamar wasn't injured. Roshounda was transported to Florida Hospital in Orlando to have the Taser prongs removed from her breast. Cpl. Gordon had not gone through Taser training and therefore did not have a Taser on him. His superiors backed up his actions to draw his service pistol on Roshounda. Gateway School is for emotionally challenged students.

Preschool activities can be just as violent as a day at school. Remember Huffman High School from last year (8-3-04)? Well, this time the violence strikes the football team instead of the band. A 17-year-old boy, who wanted to become his school's kicker, was at practice this afternoon. Also at the practice, but not trying out for the team, was a 14-year-old boy. The two boys have a known bad history with each other and it climaxed into a fight during one of the breaks. During the fight, the younger boy, a freshman, stabbed the older boy, a senior, on his left side with a 3-inch knife. The older boy suffered a collapsed lung and was air lifted to Stanford Medical Center. The young instigator fled the scene, but was picked up by police a few blocks away. He was taken to the juvenile hall and charged with assault with a deadly weapon and possessing a weapon on school grounds. Classes begin at Santa Cruz High on Wednesday, August 31, 2005.

A High School in Tampa, Florida
Friday, August 19, 2005
A 39-year-old mother tried all week to register her 16-year-old son at a high school in Tampa when things turned violent today. The boy has been suspended from school since last year. School officials advised the mother to register her son at the high school closer to their home. When the boy heard this, he "body checked" a school police officer, nearly knocking him to the ground. The officer regained his balance and was in the process of arresting the boy when he was attacked by the mother. This attack freed up the boy to join his mother in assaulting the school police officer. The boy's 22-year-old older brother was about to join in on the family assault when a security officer stopped him. The police officer then drew his Taser and the attack ended. All three, the mother and her two sons, were arrested. The mother and younger son were charged with assaulting a school police officer at a high school.

Earlier this summer the state education agency closed the Wilmer-Hutchins Independent School District because the school buildings were so dilapidated, they posed a threat to the students and teachers. Also, the school district was out of money and the community had lost its confidence in the school board. The Dallas Independent School District agreed to bring the Wilmer-Hutchins students into the Dallas schools. The students from Wilmer-Hutchins were split up between the Dallas schools and that was apparently a problem for some of them today. Two girls, one from Wilmer-Hutchins and one from Dallas, started a brawl in Roosevelt's cafeteria today. It escalated when other students joined in and started throwing food. School officials were able to restore order in the cafeteria and charged five students with disruption, a Class C misdemeanor. Minutes later, another fight broke out. School officials once again restored ordered and issued four more citations. In all 13 students were sent home for participating in the two fights.

After tonight's football game between Northwestern and Booker T. Washington high schools, gunfire rang out in the parking lot of Traz-Powell Stadium. 17-year-old James Lewis, a senior at Northwestern, was with a group of males when the shooting started. They all scattered and he fell to the ground. James died from his gunshot wounds. Northwestern had won the football game. By Wednesday, Jerod Antwon Rennie, 19, was in police custody and confessed to killing James. Jerod told police he and James had been involved in an altercation earlier in the day. Tonight, when the two met up, Jerod said James made a sudden move and he fired his gun in self-defense.

School violence strikes on the first day of school at El Cerrito High. About 1 this afternoon, a 15-year-old boy walked out of a classroom and felt something hard hit his head. He, and school officials, didn't know what hit him, however he was visibly bleeding. He went to Children's Hospital Oakland where doctors removed a plastic pellet round. The doctors left another plastic pellet round in his skull. The boy returned to school on Wednesday and told school officials that he had been shot. An investigation began at that point. On Thursday, police arrested a 17-year-old male student at the school in connection with this shooting. He was charged with suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a weapon on school grounds.

Earlier this week, a teacher disciplined three of her male students. Two of the boys are 12-years-old and the other is 14. The boys got together and decided that they would kill the teacher. One of the boys got two of his uncle's guns, one from his truck and the other from a junk drawer. As classes changed this morning around 9:30 this morning, the three boys entered a restroom to distribute the guns and begin their plan. Minutes later, a gunshot resonated through the halls of Maury Middle School. One of the teachers heard the gunfire from the restroom and went to investigate. Inside the restroom were the three boys and the two handguns, one of them was still loaded. The bullet hit one of the seventh-graders in the lower leg. His mother picked him up and transported him to Saint Mary's Hospital. The other two boys were arraigned at the Jefferson County Juvenile Facility and charged with possessing a weapon on school grounds. As police investigated, they upgraded the charges to conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. The three boys were arraigned as juveniles in court on Tuesday where their bond was set at $100,000 each. The wounded boy was allowed to go home, but only until a doctor could remove the bullet from his leg. All of this could have been avoided as the teacher was not at Maury Middle School today.

Omega Psi Phi fraternity members were sitting near two benches painted purple and gold, the fraternity's colors. Ryan Mack, 32, approached them and did or said something that offended the members. (The news story didn't say what provoked them.) This was around 1:00 in the afternoon on the first day of classes at JSU. Ryan then went to the Jacob L. Reddix union where some of the fraternity members followed him. At the union a fight broke out and then climaxed when Ryan pulled out a 9mm handgun and shot Benjamin Hart in the upper abdomen. Benjamin, 23, was treated at University of Mississippi Medical Center and released on September 3. Police arrested Ryan and charged him with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon on school property.

About 2:30 this afternoon, 21-year-old Jeremy Ryan Reed was driving his black Infiniti G20 sedan at a high rate of speed through the student parking lot. He left the school grounds, driving south in the 5600 block of West before making a quick U-turn. (Now driving north on West.) He jumped the median and almost got hit by a semi-truck as he made the U-turn. Jeremy headed back to the school and saw a group of teens standing on the east side of West near the 4500 block of South. As he approached them, he jerked the car to the right and struck a 15-year-old boy on his bicycle. The boy was thrown nearly 100 feet to the northeast. His bike landed over 30 feet to the east side of the road. Jeremy then sped away, his windshield smashed. About a mile away in a residential area, he failed to negotiate a turn and crashed through a fence. With his car now damaged beyond functionality, he began to run east through the neighborhood. Melissa Person heard the crash as she was pulling into her driveway. She pulled back out onto the road, drove past three house and saw Jeremy's smashed Infiniti. He was running up the street, but as he approached Melissa's house, he slowed to a brisk walk. Melissa followed Jeremy for about a block and then asked him if the smashed black Infiniti was his. He said, "Yeah, can you take me back to it?" Melissa had her two kids in the back of her car and didn't want to pick up a stranger. She returned to the wrecked Infiniti where she learned that Jeremy was wanted in the hit and run. Police arrived and setup a perimeter around the neighborhood. They found Jeremy intoxicated in a window well a short time later. He was taken to the Salt Lake County Jail and put into a cell to sober up so that he could be booked on automobile homicide. The 15-year-old boy died from his injury.

Following a school break around 11 a.m., 15-year-old William Kerr began heading back to his classroom. An unnamed male classmate nudged William and blocked his path while another unnamed male classmate stabbed him with a pen. David Graham, 16, witnessed the attack and tried to help William by putting him into a headlock. (Although why one would put another in a headlock to stop them from being stabbed is beyond me.) William then pulled out his pocketknife. When David saw this, he released William and ran to the vending machines in the cafeteria. William chased him, all the while wielding the pocketknife. William cornered David and stabbed him in the chest, three times in the buttocks and sliced his hand. Teachers and school officials were able to end the violence. Police arrived and had David transported to Glasgow Royal Infirmary to be treated for his injuries. William was arrested and was due in court on Wednesday. He pleaded guilty in court on Friday, August 25, 2006.

The Houston Astrodome became home to thousands of New Orleans evacuees when Hurricane Katrina flooded the Big Easy on August 29, 2005.. Houston opened up their schools to the Louisiana students and a riot broke out today. For days animosity brewed between the two groups as to who controlled the school. The fight began at 8 a.m. with about 25 students (some from Houston, some from Louisiana) when a Houston student tossed a soft drink can into a group of Louisiana students. Fists soon followed and the brawl became a riot. Police eventually regained control of the students and had three injured students transported to a hospital. A few weeks ago, Kelly Grimes, 21, and an unnamed girl, 15, became involved in a spitting incident when the younger girl spit on Kelly. This was at a football game between Sherwood High School and another school. Kelly's boyfriend plays for Sherwood. Tonight, Kelly invited her half sister, 15-year-old Kanisha Neal, to go with her to the football game between Blake and Sherwood high schools. Blake lost the game 44-0. At the end of the game, around 8:30, Kelly, Kanisha and a third unnamed girl were walking in the parking lot when Kanisha asked them to point out the girl who had spit on Kelly two weeks ago. Kelly and the unnamed friend declined Kanisha's request. However, the unnamed 15-year-old girl and four of her friends came across them in the crowd near a green SUV. A racial epithet was said, a punch was thrown and one of the girls from the quintet started swinging a baseball bat at Kelly and Kanisha. She tried to flee, but the unnamed girl with Kelly and Kanisha cut her off. She turned back and went right into the arms of Kanisha. Kanisha grabbed the girl's hair and began pulling it and punching her. The unnamed 15-year-old girl then pulled out a knife and stabbed Kanisha just below her left breast. The cut was very clean with little outward bleeding, but massive internal bleeding. Kanisha, who attends Rockville High School, collapsed into Kelly's arms. Kelly and the unnamed third girl placed Kanisha on the ground where she shook uncontrollably. Police officers and school officials came to her aid and to break up the fight. They began CPR on her and then had her transported to Suburban Hospital where she died. Police arrested the unnamed 15-year-old female student from Sherwood High School and charged her as a juvenile with second-degree murder. On Thursday, December 22, 2005, Judge Terrence McGann found the unnamed 15-year-old instigator guilty on murder charges, guilty of carrying a deadly weapon on school property and concealing a deadly weapon.

This is Homecoming Week at Central High School, and school violence starts it off on the wrong foot. This morning during first period, Travis Marlett, an autistic 17-year-old, feigned a stomach ache to acquire a pass to go to the nurse's office. However, he bypassed the nurse's office, went upstairs and entered a classroom to get a tissue. Student aide Leigh Ann Vorhees was the only other person in the room. It was 8:30 at the time. Travis left the room, came right back in, walked up behind her, put his hand over her mouth and slit the 16-year-old's throat with a 5-inch carving knife. Leigh Ann screamed as best she could with a slit throat and a teacher ran in to see what the commotion was. Leigh Ann was trying to fight off Travis when the teacher arrived. She was able to get the knife out of his hands. The teacher was able to pull him away from her and subdue him until the police arrived. Leigh Ann was transported to Ball Memorial Hospital where doctors stitched up a 3-inch gaping wound in her neck and treated the cuts on her hands. She was released from the hospital in the afternoon. Police took Travis into custody and charged him with attempted murder. The police obtained permission from Travis's mother to search his room, there they found about 50 knives. Both Travis and Leigh Ann, who plays volleyball and her mother is a county judge, are juniors at Muncie Central High School. In early December 2006, Travis pleaded guilty but mentally ill to criminal confinement and was sentenced to 20 years in prison with mental health treatment by Special Judge Peter Haviza of Randolph County. Prosecutors dropped the more serious charges of attempted murder and batter with a deadly weapon when Travis pleaded guilty.

Joshua S. Minks, 17, took apart a 12-guage shotgun, put the three pieces into a duffel bag (along with black clothes and a mask) and smuggled them into his school this morning. He entered a restroom, donned the black clothes and mask, withdrew the shotgun pieces from the duffel bag and reassembled the gun. He loaded it and another student walked into the restroom at this time. The student said, "That gun's not real." Joshua then fired a single shot into the ceiling to prove that it was a real gun. A school administrator heard the gunfire, entered the restroom and saw Joshua with the gun. The administrator talked to Joshua and calmed him down while other school officials evacuated the students to the nearby Centene Center. The police arrived, took Joshua, a special needs student, into custody and charged him with four counts of assault on school property as well as unlawful use of a weapon. No one was injured in this shooting that took place just after 8 a.m. On Tuesday, July 25, 2006, Joshua pleaded guilty to one count of assault on school property and unlawful uses of a weapon. Prosecutors dropped the three other assault accounts.

A couple of weeks ago, two 15-year-old boys were released from the same juvenile detention center. They enrolled at Saginaw High School to continue their education. Today, one of them ensured his return to the detention center when he took a noontime dare. In a crowded hallway, a group of ten boys were 15 feet away from a 17-year-old girl. She overheard one of them, Clarence W. Russell III, bragging that he had a gun. The other boys dared him to shoot 15-year-old Daniel Foster, offering him $20 to $40 for the violent act. I guess it doesn't take much to entice a 15-year-old boy to shoot somebody else as Clarence pulled a .380-caliber handgun from his Carhartt-style coat and fired three times at Daniel, striking him in the chest. Daniel yelled, "All, I got shot!" He ran a few paces, fell sideways to the floor and began kicking his legs. He was rushed to Covenant Medical Center and listed in critical condition after a two hour surgery. Clarence ran from the school, but was caught by a security officer in a yard nearby a few minutes later. Police arrested him and recovered the gun. Police believe the shooting to be gang related. Clarence was arraigned on Friday afternoon and charged with assault with intent to murder and five felony firearms charges.

English teacher Mark Seghers relocated to Philadelphia after Hurricane Katrina tore through his Long Beach, Mississippi home. He started working at SPHS and found out how little brotherly love is in this city. Last Wednesday, a female student yelled an obscenity into his classroom and threatened him. When he asked for her name, she ran away. Today, he heard the same girl making a ruckus in the hallway. He again asked for the 17-year-old's name. She refused and he tried to take her into his room. She pulled away and started throwing punches at him. Her twin sister and 20 other students joined in the pummeling of Mark. When it was all over with, Mark had a black eye, facial bruises and a chipped tooth. Police arrested the twins and charged them with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats and disorderly conduct. Mark said he would not return to South Philadelphia High and hoped to be transferred to a safer school. By the beginning of the next school year, only two students had been charged and convicted for attack Mark. So far, police are not in any hurry to bring charges against the other 20 students.

On Friday, October 28, the school's headmaster and deputy got drunk on alcohol. They harassed the public during their drunken stupor. Citizens complained and police went to the school, but the headmaster resisted arrest. The police returned on Saturday but found their way blocked by students. Today, the police returned to the school to arrest him and were confronted by more students, this time they were armed with rocks. Somehow or another, the officers were locked in the school, surrounded by students throwing rocks at them. Believing themselves to be in danger, the officers opened fire on the students. One died there at the school, two more died at the hospital and up to 35 were injured. That's the official story. However, the school board says something different. They say drunken police officers took 900 kina ($NZ440) from a teacher's group holding the the student-donated money for an end-of-the-year party. The headmaster was demanding the money be returned. Police officers went to the school, dragged him from his office and manhandled his deputy. Some of the students threw rocks at the police, but not the large crowd of students police say were throwing rocks. The police then opened fire on the students, who range in age from 7 to 16. Provincial Police Commander Teddy Tei promised a full investigation into the matter. Papua New Guinea police are known for their ill-discipline and brutality. The next day, the police commander at Porgera was removed from duty as the investigation got under way. On Wednesday, December 14, 2005, Inspector Felix Nebanet and First Constable Paul Pare were charged with willful murder and attempted murder for their roles in this school shooting. Felix was the Mobile Squad 12 commander in Laiagam. Paul worked out of the Porgera Police Station.

On Tuesday two girls got into a squabble at Richard Ishmael Secondary School. One of the girls is 15-years-old and the other is Tomieka Smith, age unknown. The exchange of words was over the 15-year-old girl and a male student. The squabble escalated to a fight, with the unnamed girl slamming Tomieka's head into a desk. The two girls were eventually separated and sent to the head teacher's office. Once there, neither of the girls were able to present their case to the head teacher about what caused the fight. The head teacher gave them letters to give to their parents and suspended the unnamed 15-year-old girl. Tomieka was sent to the hospital for treatment. While there, her mother Joy arrived to see how her oldest twin was doing. After seeing the bruises on her daughter's face, Joy took Tomieka back to the school to talk to the head teacher. However, they were referred to the Deputy Head. The Deputy Head Teacher and Tomieka's class teacher spoke with them, with her teacher asking that the letter be destroyed. She also wanted Tomieka to be in class tomorrow for an examination. Joy and Tomieka then left the school. Today, Tomieka's eyes and face were swollen so badly that Joy called the head teacher to tell her she was going to call the police. The head teacher asked her not to do that and said that she would look into the matter and that there wasn't a need to get the police involved just yet. Joy didn't contact the police and scheduled to meet with the unnamed 15-year-old's parents on Friday. Later in the day, Joy's other daughter, and Tomieka's twin, Tunicia, called and said she was being bullied at school by a female friend of the unnamed 15-year-old. Another family member went to the school to speak with the teachers about what was happening. When the teacher's had called for the friend of the unnamed 15-year-old girl, she refused to go to the office. Tunicia called once more to tell her mother of the bullying. This time Joy and six of her relatives went to the school. The family members who went to the school include 34-year-old Jacklyn Levius and 15-year-old Wanda Small. Joy asked to speak to the head teacher and the friend of the unnamed 15-year-old girl, but once again, the girl refused to come to the office and explain herself. Joy's relatives took matters into their own hands when Jacklyn and Wanda left the head teacher's office in search of the bully. Wanda, who knows the bully, had the idea to go find the girl who had beaten up her relative. As they searched the school, they came across the the female friend of 15-year-old instigator and heated words were exchanged. Suddenly, the young female instigator grabbed Jacklyn, pulled out a knife and began stabbing her. Jacklyn was stabbed four times, all in her chest near her heart. Wanda joined in the fight in an effort to save Jacklyn. Wanda was stabbed just above the right eye and slashed on her left hand. After wounding her opponents, the instigator fled the school. Jacklyn was taken to Georgetown Public Hospital and died just after 8 p.m. Wanda was also taken to the hospital and treated for her wounds. The young instigator turned herself in on Saturday.

Antoanela I., 17, left her home months ago to live with her boyfriend, 32-year-old Constantin Groza. He lives on the same street as she does. During a night of intimacy, nude pictures of her were taken. Earlier this week an e-mail with those pictures was sent to the school. Antoanela became angry and decided to dump her much older boyfriend. Constantin was upset about this and went to her school to find out why she wanted out of the relationship. Even though the school has body guards at the door and he looks nothing like a teenager who is supposed to be there, Constantin gained entry to the campus. The couple started arguing over the break up when the deputy director of the school invited them to use her office to resolve the argument. Minutes later, she heard Antoanela screaming. When the deputy director opened the door, she saw that Antoanela had been stabbed with a knife. She was transported to the emergency hospital in Bucharest and underwent surgery. Constantin was captured while he was talking to a journalist. He was telling them Antoanela had asked him to cut her with his pocketknife more than once. He also said he to the school to give her money. Police charged him with attempted murder. Antoanela is continuing to recover from her injuries.

At 11:30 this morning, a 17-year-old male student was standing outside the school when a black Ford Taurus rolled up along side of him. The passengers in the Taurus shouted gang slang at him and then opened fire on him. He was struck in the back by one of the flying bullets. The vehicle fled the scene, but was recovered just one and a half miles away. The injured student was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange. Police believe this shooting to be gang related. Orange County Department of Education runs the school, which is a white building at the end of a strip mall.
Webmaster's note: The first news story didn't name the school, just the address (1895 W. Katella Avenue). However, the Anaheim school district website has no such school listed at this address. The second news story named the school as South West Anaheim, but once again a Google search for that school came up empty. The third news story, and the most detailed of the three, named the school as Horizon Continuation School, so that is the one I am going with. I even used Google Earth to look at the address and sure enough, the white school building is at the end of a strip mall, not really a traditional school campus as I know it. Hopefully this is the correct name for this school.

Conflicting stories surround this act of school violence from the Caribbean. One story is that an 18-year-old male identified only as P.S. slapped a 16-year-old male identified only as C.W. for bumping into him. C.W. retaliated by stabbing P.S. twice in the chest and then fleeing the school. The second story said the two boys had a disagreement earlier (whether it be in the day or in the week, I don't know.) P.S. was in a classroom at the school when his teacher left the room. After she left, C.W. rushed in and stabbed P.S. twice in the chest. C.W. then fled the school by jumping over the school gate and running away. P.S. was rushed to St. Maarten Medical Center and listed in critical condition. Police began searching for C.W. Two weeks later, P.S. was identified as Steve Thervil in a news story from The Daily Herald of St. Maarten. According to that story, the stabbing took place around 9:30 a.m. and Steve didn't know he was stabbed until he looked down and saw blood on his shirt. He was stabbed six times by his classmate. After spending ten days in the hospital Steve is determined to encourage his fellow classmates to resolve their differences peacefully.

A Cram (Elementary) School, Uji, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan
Saturday, December 10, 2005
Sayano Horimoto, a 12-year-old sixth-grade girl, started taking classes at the Uji Shinmei branch of the Kyoshin chain of cram schools on March 25, 2005. Cram schools, called juku, are used by students to prepare for entrance exams at the next level of education. Each classroom in the cram school has a security camera in it. One of her teachers was Yu Hagino, a 23-year-old senior law student majoring in criminology at Doshisha University. He works part-time as a teacher at the juku. By the beginning of April, Yu had expressed concerns over Sayano in a school journal, stating, "I cannot get along well with Sayano as far as educational guidance is concerned." In August, Sayano's mother called the school to complain about her daughter having the longest counseling sessions with Yu of all his students. She also said he scolded her often. At the end of November, Yu berated Sayano during a conference with her main teacher. This caused Sayano to cry on her way home. At the beginning of the this month, Sayano stopped taking Yu's classes. A few days later, Yu went shopping and he picked up two knives and a hammer from a local store. Today, the school was scheduled to trial test sixth-graders from 9 a.m. to noon and at Sayano's mother's request, Yu was removed from supervising the test by school officials. Yu went to the school anyway, with the two knives and hammer. He entered a classroom with 13 students and told them he will be conducting survey on the Japanese courses he had taught them. He told the students who had been in his class to move to another room. A dozen of them got up and left the room. Only Sayano remained in the room. Once the two were alone in the room, Yu unplugged the security camera, locked the door, pulled out a 29-centimeter (11-inch) knife and stabbed Sayano in the face and neck. After he stabbed Sayano, Yu called the police from his cell phone, the call coming into them just after 9 in the morning. Another teacher persuaded Yu to unlock the door and come out of the room. When he opened the door, he was still holding the cell phone and there was blood on his hands. Sayano was rushed to the hospital where she died. Police arrested Yu and confiscated the knives and hammer from him. Yu confessed to killing Sayano, saying, "I had been troubled over how to teach her. I thought it would be better if she would disappear." Police charged Yu with her murder and violating the Law to Control the Possessions of Firearms and Swords. A mental evaluation of Yu ruled that he suffers from Asperger syndrome. However, he was still found competent to stand trial. On Tuesday, March 6, 2007, Judge Makoto Himuro sentenced Yu to 18 years in prison for the premeditated murder of Sayano Horimoto.

In an eerie similar fashion to Brenda Spencer from January 29, 1979, a 14-year-old boy in his Roermond house opened fire on students at a primary school across the street. Fortunately, the boy was using an air gun and not a sniper rifle like Brenda. He fired upon the innocent children from the attic window. Panic ensued on the playground as teachers and parents scrambled to move the children to safety. One child was slightly injured in this shooting. The boy stopped shooting when the police arrived at the home. He was captured and detained.

Students began arriving at 8:00 this morning as they normally do. Unfortunately, their normal day was shattered when an unnamed 12-year-old seventh-grade girl and an unnamed 15-year-old ninth-grade girl got into a fight. The fight climaxed when the younger girl pulled out a 12-inch butcher's knife and stabbed the freshman co-ed in the right leg. Math teacher Johnsteven Melfi was leaving a classroom when he heard the older girl scream, "I've been stabbed." The injured girl was on the floor with blood flowing from the wound. He asked her who stabbed her and she pointed to the seventh-grader girl standing behind him. Johnsteven turned and the young girl started coming toward him. He told her to drop the knife and she did. Johnsteven then held on to the young instigator and picked up the knife. He then called over Steven Louis, another teacher. Steven put the young girl alone into his classroom and took possession of the knife. Johnsteven ran downstairs to tell the principal, vice-principal and nurse. The nurse went to tend to the injured girl while Johnsteven called the police. The injured girl was taken to University Hospital for treatment. The instigator was arrested and charged with second degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree. She is being held at the Hillbrook Detention Center. Ononda
